Helping families create an intentional, organised home that makes life easier, reduces daily decisions and brings happiness 🙂.

Are you good at tetrising stuff? As a professiona Are you good at tetrising stuff?

As a professional organiser, I'm pretty good at it, and a lot of my clients are too.

It can be quite satisfying and is a great skill for packing stuff:

+ when you're moving;
+ for longer-term storage;
+ for a holiday.

BUT,
if you want to be able to find and access things in your home, then having them tetrised in a drawer or cupboard is not going to be very functional.

For a space that is organised AND functional, you need to be able to:

+ See what is in there quickly and easily;
+ store like-with-like;
+ access things without moving too much stuff out of the way.

There's a place for both options, but you need to choose. Do you:

A. Want to fit as much stuff in the space as possible?
OR
B. Want to be able to find and access your stuff easily when you need it?
When I first meet a client in their home they can When I first meet a client in their home they can feel anxious.

They often say that they don't think they will be able to declutter much.

And that's ok.

We go through the [books/clothes/bed linen], and just stick with easy "Yes, I definitely want to keep", or definite "No, that can go."

It's totally fine to have an 'unsure pile'.

You won't be pressurised into decluttering anything you don't want to.

What I may do is:

+ Remind you of your goals & vision, and how you're tracking.
+ Ask questions about how many [doona covers] you want to keep.
+ Offer some perspective on what I do in my own home, or what others do.

But, you are in control.

Most times they surprise themselves and let go of much more than they expected.

But, even when they don't, they now have a good idea of what they do have.

And, we sort like-with-like and allocate homes for the items, so you know where to find it when you next need it.
Does the though of decluttering make you feel anxi Does the though of decluttering make you feel anxious or overwhelmed?

Try re-framing it.
Don't 'declutter' the craft items, instead organise them.
Sort like-with-like into categories.
It could be by type, or by colour. It doesn't really matter.
The idea is that you are going through all the items in the drawer or cupboard and reviewing them.

You will likely find that as you do this, there will be some things that you will easily get rid of.
There may be some rubbish, or items that you know you will never use, or just don't like.

Even if you keep everything, it's a good reminder of what you have and an opportunity to give the drawer or cupboard a quick clean.
Such a lovely job last week problem solving with t Such a lovely job last week problem solving with this client.

They said that they didn't think they would declutter much, but I donated around 6 boxes of books, 3 bin bags of clothes plus 2 or 3 boxes of stationery and craft stuff. What an amazing job.

I had fun setting up the playroom, and I got to use my design skills to do up some floor plan options to optimise the home office as a multi-functional space. ❤️

Janel discovered a love for organising having helped friends and family. After working behind a desk for 20+ years at the Dept. of Education, she's looking forward to getting away from the screen to help people in their homes to create a more functional and joyful space.

I'm so excited to see my business grow in 2025 so we can help more people and have an impact on their homes and lives. ❤️🏡🤗
Do you have collectibles or unique vintage items t Do you have collectibles or unique vintage items that you want to sell?

1. Auction houses
Contact an auction house near you. You can normally send some photo's and a description of the items you have, and they can advise if there is a market for them. They will take a commission, so weigh up if it's worth it.
Some auction houses have bric-a-brac sales for household goods which can be a good option if you're letting go of a lot of stuff due to downsizing or an estate clearance.
You can also pay for a valuer to come to your house to take a look at your items.

2. Second-hand shops
You can also contact local second-hand shops or dealers and see if they are interested in your items.

3. Sell online
Facebook marketplace and groups have no fees, but it's quite a bit of work and can take a long time. You will need to photograph, list and liaise with buyers and scammers.

For any option, I suggest putting a time limit on selling your items. If they haven't sold within that timeframe, consider donating them or giving them away for free on local PIF (Pay It Forward) groups.
Have you heard of death cleaning? It's the process Have you heard of death cleaning?
It's the process of decluttering and organising your home to reduce the burden on loved ones after you pass away.

Made famous by Margareta Magnusson in her book "The gentle art of Swedish Death cleaning".

One of her tips I love is to attach notes to your items with instructions as to what to do with it when you're gone. e.g. Return to library, go to the museum, donate, return to original owners.
What's lurking in your wardrobe? I pulled together What's lurking in your wardrobe?
I pulled together a halloween costume for my son this week with a cat onesie & cat mask!

I know a decluttered and organised wardrobe makes it so much easier to get ready in the morning.
But, if you're overwhelmed with tackling it by yourself, you don't have to do it alone.

I can help with in-home decluttering and organising services start at $375 for a 3hr session.
And I take away up to a car-load of donations or textile recycling at the end of the session, so you're not left with another thing on your to do list.

Please don't do this - it is not OK. I had textil Please don't do this - it is not OK.

I had textiles to drop off for recycling this week, and I went to 2 different places and saw this...

A number of bags left next to to the bin.
Some of the stuff wasn't even textiles.

* This is litter that will likely get strewn over the place.
* They'll likely get wet and dirty.
* They may be damaging to wildlife.
* They may attract pests.
* Someone has to clean them up, likely at a financial cost.

So what do you do if the bins are full?

Take it back home and try again another time.

Or, put in your general rubbish.

I know people are trying to do the right thing by recycling, but it is much safer and more responsible to send stuff to landfill than to leave it lying on the street like this and making it someone else's problem.
Most of us only wear 20% of what's in our wardrobe Most of us only wear 20% of what's in our wardrobe 80% of the time.

All the clothes in your wardrobe should fit, be in good condition and you love wearing them.

But, going through your wardrobe can be overwhelming.

1. Grab a friend or get the kids involved. It’s more fun than doing it alone.
2. Set a timer and pull out each item one-by-one.
3. If it doesn't fit, needs fixing, is too worn or just doesn't feel right anymore, leave it out.
4. If you still love it and wear it, put it back.
5. As you're putting it back, try and categorise like-with-like.
6. When the times up, or you've had enough, make a note of where you've got to.

For items that don't fit or you just don't like anymore:
>> Either donate, or pack away in vacuum bags, tubs or a suitcase.

For items that need fixing, are too worn, ripped or stained:
>> Make a plan to get it fixed.
>> Be honest with yourself as to the likelihood that you will fix it yourself.
>> If it's beyond repair, take to a textile recycling drop-off.
